Touché - Out of the box

'Out of the box' is the boxing program of Touché that combines work-out with mental training to reinforce (self-)respect, self-control, positive interactions and fun, inclusion and confidence of young people and (ex-)prisoners. We help them better master their own aggression, by learning to recognize, control and channel it and eventually use the power underneath in a positive way to realize positive life goals.

'Out of the box' is the boxing program of Touché that combines work-out with mental training to reinforce (self-)respect, self-control, positive interactions and fun, inclusion and confidence. 
We focus on 3 interconnected problems: violence, exclusion & the vulnerability of young people. Touché resolutely chooses a constructive approach to tension and aggression. We transform it into a positive force. We offer a solution-oriented space where we listen to aggression as a survival technique, as a will to move forward in a very fiery package, as a life force. A place where the attention goes to who they would like to be, (hidden) talents, exceptions to problems, how they can discover and explore themselves in a different way. A place that breathes hope and belief in their possibilities.
All our programs are designed to help people better master their own aggression, by learning to recognize, control and channel it and eventually use the power underneath in a positive way, as strength, creativity, passion, to realize positive life goals. A practice-based research showed people have several solutions to constructively deal with their own anger: communication, work-out, creativity and stillness. The group of (ex-)prisoners Touché was working with since the start, told us they wanted to do something positive with their experiences, give something back to society and have a meaningful and positive impact in the life of young people, to prevent that they would get in the same severe problems as they did. Young people taught us that a conversation is not always their favorite entrance to start working on their aggression, that physical exertion leads to physical and mental relaxation and that what an experienced expert does or says is important to them. These 3 elements, led us to set up a boxing program, in which boxing trainers focus on the technical aspect of the sport and a Touché coach (an ex-prisoner / hands on expert) focuses on the well-being of the young people.
Boxing as a specific way to work with aggression is attractive to young people, leads to physical relaxation and release, more inner peace, increased self-confidence, more self-control, pleasure, more (self) respect and a different focus. Out of the box combines positive effects in terms of physical and mental health, less aggressive explosions, less interruptions in school / life / work / relational / guidance pathways, feeling understood, recognized and appreciated in their abilities and talents, and becoming part of an inclusive, warm, supportive community.
